With a little guidance and support from an Employment Ontario-funded agency, Sandra found an electrical apprenticeship to complete her final year. Her deadline was tight, and the odds seemed stacked against her, but she was still able to secure the apprenticeship sponsorship. The contractor took a chance, yes, but the return on investment was massive. According to the employer, women apprentices seemed to take the work more seriously, and complete tidier and more organized jobs with less downtime. Women do face an additional challenge being in a field that has traditionally been dominated by men, but these stereotypes are unfounded in reality.
