What exactly is a Voluntary trade?

Voluntary trades (TQAA classification)
are similar to Unrestricted trades in the Apprenticeship Certification Act (ACA) (see Unrestricted Trades, ACA) in that they are trades that do not require the person practising them to hold a valid certificate of qualification, or be a registered apprentice.
In the case of OYAP students, no special rules need to be applied, since anyone can work in these trades.
