Ontario Youth Apprenticehsip Program

(OYAP)

  • Employers can have High School students for co-op placements while student is still in school
  • Student can be registered as an apprentice
  • OYAP students are exempt from ratio while on placement for co-op hours

 

Summer Job service through Job Connect

  • Employers can keep High School, College or University students employed through the summer
  • Employers receive a $2.00 per hour wage subsidy if they qualify for the summer job program

Job Connect- Regular program

  • Employers who qualify can hire through the Job Connect program and receive a potential wage subsidy
  • Employers can have resumes screened for their particular positions and postings can be done on the Job Connect website.

Apprenticeship Training Tax Credit

  • Employeer applies for this on their taxes based on the first 48 months of the apprenticeship wages.
  • Currently $5000.00 per year per apprentice for the first 3 years.  Awaiting approval to increase amount to $10000.00 for 4 years (not yet approved)

Currently $15000.00 per apprentice-

Awaiting approval for $40000.00 per apprentice

Apprenticeship Scholarship Employer Signing Bonus

  • Employer hires eligible employee who is under 25; does not have min. education requirement, but does upgrading and is eventually signed as an apprentice
  • Employer receives first installment after apprentice is registered with MTCU and the other installment 6 months later ($1000.00 each)

Apprenticeship Job Creation Tax Credit

  • Employeers are eligible for a non-refundable tax credit up to $2000 per year for the first two years of apprenticeship

Tradesperson Tool deduction

  • If employer is also a tradesperson,. they are eligible write off half of their yearly tool budget to a maximum of $1000

Co-operative education tax credit

  • A refundable tax credit offered to employers operating unincorporated businesses who hire enrolled in a recognized Ontario college or University co-operative education program

Targeted wage subsidy for apprenticeship

 

  • A wage subsidy available to employers who hire EI clients that have difficulty finding work
  • Subsidy based on clients' needs and job placements

  • Employers are nominated and recognized yearly for their support in training apprentices in the Apprenticeshipnetwork's catchment area

 

Minister's Apprenticeship Employer Award

  • Employers who offer apprenticeship are recognized provincially for their ongoing contribution to apprenticeship
