Dave started in a management role in 1989, and has been dealing hand in hand with the Ministry of training colleges and apprenticeships ever since. Mr Galadja has made remarks that the quality of the technicians leaving the college and entering the workforce are properly adapted to the ever-advancing technology of todays Heavy trucks; this is thanks to the readily evolving Curriculum of Fanshawe College.
Dave believes that there is a higher percentage of employers willing to take on apprentices. This change in mindset only benefits the local economy and prepares the ever growing population for the drastic changes in the near future. The return on investment in excellent. Not that long ago, a small business would be leery on taking on this responsibility. thanks in part to the Job Connect program and the intelligent youth preparing to enter the field Ontario’s skilled trades will remain at the for-front of the world.
London Mack currently has an above 8 apprentices that completed there apprenticeship here, and 5 of which had no other formal experience other than Fanshawe’s Motive Power program. Building an even stronger case that with quality mentorship; like that given here at london mack in conjunction with a quality post secondary education then potential is unmeasurable.
London Mack / Performance Hino currently employes 16 highly skilled technicians. These skill sets are not solely learned at an institution, but; a stable and exceptional management staff that keeps up to date with todays changing industry needs to pass this wisdom onto its techs; as done so at London Mack.
Although there is some risk involved with the apprenticeship program. A great investment in man hours and money is needed. Technicians may leave to pursue other opportunities, this has not damages Daves outlook on the program. Dave has had successful encounters with Job Connect, and found the program simple and the agents to be very organized, which is a key to success.
Dave does feel that more advertising, and a better liaison with the college, to bring job connect and the industry together would help in the future. Dave heads the largest Mack dealer in canada, and had been the chairman of a board bringing industry together with the college. This man is intelligent and knows the apprenticeship program like no other. The experience at London Mack for a rookie apprentice is like no there, I know, I was one. So in this Economic cloud, there is SUN in our community.
